66 Rescued from Ice Floes Near Sturgeon Bay

The Coast Guard, Wisconsin DNR, and Brown County Sheriff rescued 66 people from several ice floes near Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on Feb. 4, 2021.

The ice had separated from the mainland and drifted 1,000 feet from shore, stranding ice fishermen and shanties. A Coast Guard MH-60T Sikorsky Jayhawk helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to one group.

After additional assets arrived, helicopters continued overflights, looking for signs of distress and vectoring ice rescue boats to groups of shanties.
