Re: Film Reviews.
Marty Supreme. 6/10 Quite a movie but it's completely confused by itself, it's a cross between Angelina Jolie in unbroken, and some weird Woody Allen attempt in Paris some time ago, watchable, enjoyable but worth seeing. |

Re: Film Reviews.
Dust bunny. 2025. 8/10 A little girl teams up with an assassin, to get rid of a monster under her bed. Family friendly gateway horror, decent plot that echos The professional. The film itself is full of very still colourful scenes, everything is well balanced. CGI plays a big part, but it works given the humorous script. Has a small cast, with Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver starring. Weaver is well cast as the 'boss' of Mikkelsen's character. |

Re: Film Reviews.
On the silver globe. 1988. Poland. 7/10 A team of astronauts land on an uninhabited planet. What follows over two and half hours, intercut with a voice over from the director, describing scenes unfinished, is brutal, chaotic, visually impressive, philosophical to a degree, surreal science fiction. The costumes, large number of actors, locations and sets make for an engaging watch. There is a plot, at least for the first hour. Not a casual easy going film, but a vision from a remarkable director. |

Re: Film Reviews.
The secret agent. 2025. Brazil. 7/10 A bloke has to go into hiding due to a death threat by a connected businessman. Set in 1977, it's a slow burn drama that lets the story unfold via the characters interactions. There are a couple of scenes set in present day, one that sets up why he went into hiding. No action or a ramping up of suspense give it a very natural feel. It also shows a country where violence can be bought, but the reality of it is grim and shocking. |

Re: Film Reviews.
Kanal. 1957 Poland 9/10 A group of resistance fighters in the Warsaw uprising, surround by german troops. Are forced to go thru the sewers to escape. Well crafted war drama, has some action at the start as they are retreating, and gives each character there own attributes. Bulk of the film takes place in the tunnels, where they gradually get weaker and separated. Even thou they are all resigned to their fate at the start, the film shows how despair and hope rise and fall. |

Re: Film Reviews.
Thunderbolt and lightfoot. 1974 8/10 A older criminal teams up with a young thief to rob a bank that he and his previous fellow crims did some years before. Well paced film with a trio of older actors that bring a quirkiness and seriousness when it counts. Balances out with a young Jeff Daniels that learns about their shared history along with the viewer. Has alot of humour throughout, with tense dramatic ending. |

Re: Film Reviews.
The Gauntlet. 1977 4/10 A cop has to take a prisoner back across state lines. Starts off well but gets bogged down with long dialogue scenes and interesting action scenes, but they get more ludicrous as it goes on. Similar style 'cop' to the Dirty Harry series of films. This slots in after three of them and before the two in the '80s. |

Re: Film Reviews.
The clan. 2015. Argentina. 5/10 A older father along with some associates, kidnap rich family members and hold them hostage in the family home until a ransom is paid. True crime drama that does a good job of setting up the time of transition, that was the early '80s in Argentina. The main focus is a talented rugby player son, who is conflicted as he is drawn into the kidnappings. It does add a level of drama, but takes away from the fathers occupation which isn't really explained too much, but hinted at that he is part of the old regime. |

Re: Film Reviews.
Revolver. 1973 Italy. 6/10 A vice warden of a prison gets involved in a complicated plot, that involves the kidnapping of his wife, him freeing a prisoner then holding him as a ransom for her. Starring Oliver Reed as the warden in a steady paced seventies thriller. It follows the main character as tries to get his wife back, but things just keep getting murkier. Reed is solid and brings a emotional and brutality to the character. The plot itself doesn't explain certain things, which adds the mystery layer but does draw it out a bit in the third act. |

Re: Film Reviews.
It was just an accident. 2025. Iran. 9/10 A mechanic thinks he has discovered the man who tortured him while in prison. But he has to get a group of others involved, who suffered the same fate to be sure. Slow burn drama that builds tension at a steady pace. The film is from a wholly Iranian perspective, it doesn't have any sort of western influence. No soundtrack and scenes that are allowed to play out. The plot is simple, it relies on the trauma of those imprisoned, and there conversations of what they should do if it is him. |
