TU-204 Engine Fire Forces Return to Ufa
On August 22, a Red Wings Tupolev Tu-204 departing Ufa for Sochi suffered a surge in its left PS90A engine just before rotation. The crew continued the takeoff but stopped the climb at about 1,500 feet. An under-cowl fire, smoke, and sparks were visible through gaps in the engine cowl, and the aircraft returned to Ufa about five minutes after departure. The aircraft landed safely on runway 14R. All 215 passengers and seven crew evacuated by slides while emergency services foamed the engine.
