Roof and Walls of Garden Shed Being Blown Off by Explosion
A British fire service has released dramatic footage of a garden shed explosion, which is acting as a reminder to homeowners to ensure gas containers are stored safely. The video was captured by a home security camera in West Yorkshire and shows the roof and walls of the shed being blown off before flames quickly ignite. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the explosion, which happened in early June, was probably caused when a faulty fluorescent light fixture ignited vapours coming from gas containers or garden machinery. Officials haven’t been able to determine the exact cause of the explosion due to the extent of the damage. Health Canada recommends keeping products that may release harmful fumes or catch fire, such as paints, solvents, gasoline, fuels or varnishes, in a separate space from their homes. “Store them according to the instructions on the product’s label in a separate building if you can, or in an area that is well vented to the outside,” Health Canada says. Health Canada urges homeowners to never burn household chemicals or the containers they come in and also recommends to only buy the amount of chemical needed for a particular job, as a way of reducing waste. |
