Rockton Chemical Plant Explosion, June 14, 2021
A chemical manufacturing plant in Rockton, Illinois, exploded on June 14, 2021, starting a large fire and sending a smoke plume visible for miles. The facility manufactured metalworking fluids and industrial greases. No employees were injured, and authorities ordered a mandatory evacuation within a one-mile radius of the plant. Firefighters focused on containing the fire to the building.
