River Avon Weir Failure Drains Waterway

A weir on the River Avon failed, draining the waterway and leaving boats grounded in mud.

The sluice gate was later closed and water was being reintroduced slowly to avoid worsening problems upstream and to help refloat stranded boats. Some vessels had discharged fuel into the river, while others were stuck in the mud and required fire brigade assistance to prevent them sinking or breaking free.
