PASS Alarms at World Trade Center Ground Zero
At Ground Zero at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, numerous firefighters' PASS devices could be heard beeping after the collapse. The alarms can be activated manually or when a firefighter remains motionless for a period of time. They indicated fallen firefighters who required help.
