Montreal Biosphere Fire During 1976 Renovations
On May 20, 1976, welding work during structural renovations ignited the transparent acrylic covering of Montreal's Biosphere. The fire destroyed the acrylic bubble, while the steel truss structure remained standing. The site stayed closed until 1990.  ·
