Re: Mobile Crane Lifting Heavy Water Tank Mishap

The crane was backwards. It should have been lifting from the back with it's nose pointing towards the tower. Picture standing with your feet side by side at one end of a skateboard pointing towards the other end. Now bend down and pick up a bucket of water behind you... guess what happens next. lol

Re: Mobile Crane Lifting Heavy Water Tank Mishap

That my friend is a combination of a few things. But gravity and swaying back and forth of the water tower was no match for that crane. Once it got enough momentum it would have took a crane twice that size down. The water itself is dangerous inside.
Thank you comrade, I was wondering the same thing when the momentum started coming up. Most people have no fucking clue that a mere cubic yard of water is an entire ton, so that was extraordinary momentum even with just a tiny swing.

Re: Mobile Crane Lifting Heavy Water Tank Mishap

for chrissakes. why the hell do you guys think there was water in that tank? a fuckin 5th grader could figure out to drain the damn thing first. these engineers finished at least 6th grade.

Re: Mobile Crane Lifting Heavy Water Tank Mishap

Crash was result of simple physics laws. Can’t lift near maximum weight for crane design and then overextend boom - changes the supporting weight needed at the fulcrum, (i.e. Crane falls over).
