Mercedes CLR Goes Airborne at 1999 Le Mans

A Mercedes CLR went airborne during the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, in an incident attributed to an aerodynamic design flaw. Another Mercedes driver had already suffered two similar airborne crashes.

The car came down in an area cleared of trees for construction work rather than in the surrounding woodland. The driver was battered and disoriented but otherwise uninjured.
