Istanbul Chemical Factory Fire Launches Metal Tank, 2019
A chemical factory in Istanbul exploded and caught fire on September 19, 2019, launching a metal tank into the air. Forty-eight fire engines and 138 personnel were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Liquid chemicals spilled from the factory into the street, and Aydinli and Orhanli roads near the site were closed as a precaution. Chemicals released into the air were reported to have drifted toward Kocaeli, Sakarya and Eskisehir provinces.
