HMS Barham Magazine Explosion After U-331 Torpedo Attack, 1941

In 1941, the battleship HMS Barham was hit by three torpedoes from the German submarine U-331. Its magazine exploded, tearing open the aft starboard side of the hull as the ship capsized.

Barham sank in about four minutes. Of those aboard, 862 were killed and 337 survived.

U-331 was destroyed in November 1942 after attacks by the RAF and Royal Navy, with 32 lost.
