Daegu Subway Arson Killed 192 in 2003
On February 18, 2003, an arsonist set fire to a train at a Daegu, South Korea, subway station. The fire spread to a second train within minutes. The first train's operator did not notify controllers, and the second train entered the station before it could be stopped. Power failed shortly afterward, preventing the train from leaving and disabling its doors. The attack killed 192 people and injured 151.
