Atlas missile 4A, the first Atlas flight article, launched from Launch Complex 14 at Cape Canaveral on June 11, 1957. Engine start and launcher release were normal.

At 26 seconds after launch, the B-2 engine lost thrust. The B-1 engine lost thrust two seconds later. The missile reached about 9,800 feet, then tumbled end-over-end through its exhaust trail.

At 50 seconds after launch, the range safety officer sent the destruct command. The pressure-stabilized vehicle did not rupture before it was destroyed.
