2010 Pemex Pipeline Explosion in San Martin Texmelucan
On December 19, 2010, an oil pipeline exploded near the Pemex pumping station in San Martin Texmelucan de Labastida, Puebla, Mexico. Authorities said criminals attempting to illegally tap crude oil had punctured the line and lost control of the high-pressure fuel release. The resulting explosion and fire spread through the area, with flames reported up to 10 metres high. At least 27 people were killed, including 12 children. More than 100 homes were damaged and at least 30 were destroyed. About 5,000 residents were evacuated.
