A Tragedy in Oklahoma: Sharon Marshall Aka Susan Marie Sevakis The beautiful young lady you see in these pictures are that of Susan Marie Sevakis. Susan had a bright life and future ahead of her until her mother decided to marry Franklin Delano Floyd. Floyd met Susan's mother, Sandi Chipman in 1975 at a truck stop in North Carolina. Chipman had four children. Susan, Amy, Allison, and Phillip and she had already been married twice. She married Floyd when shortly thereafter, he convinced her to move to Dallas with him. But unfortunately before they could move, Chipman was arrested for check fraud and sentenced to 30 days behind bars. Little did she know was that Floyd already had a rap sheet and been in and out of prison before he had met her. And little did she know truly of the monster that she married. While she was locked up, Floyd took all four of her children. He dropped the youngest three off to a state foster system and kidnapped young Susan. Chipman found Allison and Amy but unfortunately, she was unable to find Susan. Phillip to this day still has yet to be located. Chipman tried to contact police about her daughter but they refused to file a missing report apparently stating that since she married Floyd he had custodial rights. Floyd travelled state to state forging paperwork and providing many aliases for himself and young Susan. Throughout high school Susan was known as Sharon Marshall. She graduated from a Forest Park high school in Georgia in 1986 and was known to have a wonderful personality. She was a bright young woman part of the top of her class in academics and she received a full ride scholarship to Georgia tech University where she planned on studying aerospace engineering. She was convinced by Floyd that he took her under his wing because neither of her parents wanted her. Throughout her high school life, she attended four different schools in the span of the year and they traveled to multiple states. Florida, Georgia, arizona, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. Floyd often played upon the sympathies of others, pretending to be her father with many illnesses and ailiments. Everytime the heat was on and too many questions were asked, Floyd would pack up and move and take Susan with him. Susan always had to be home by 430 while under his watch. While living in Florida two years after she graduated, she gave birth to her son Michael. Two years later, they moved to New Orleans and Susan married floyd while using one of her many aliases. She was using the name Tonya Marie Tadlock while Floyd used the name Clarence Hughes. After she married him she went by Tonya Hughes. Before running off to Tulsa, Floyd got into an altercation with her co-worker Cheryl Ann Commesso because apparently Susan lost her government benefits and Floyd accused Cheryl of reporting Susan for misstating her monthly income. It is said he caused a scene outside of the club they were working at and he punched Commesso. Commesso disappeared was was never heard from again and suspiciously, Susan and Floyd's trailer was burnt to the ground right before they fled for Tulsa. Susan also worked as an exotic dancer in Tulsa where she made a new friend by the name of Karen Parsley. Karen tried to talk Susan into leaving Floyd and getting out of his dominating grip but Susan had confided to parsley that he had threatened to kill her and Michael if she ever left him. It was in April of 1990 when Susan decided to leave and take her son. She was going to live with her new boyfriend that she had been in a secret relationship with. Later on in that month, susan's body was found on the side of a highway 100 miles outside of okc. She was rushed to a hospital in okc where she had died and when they found her, her body was surrounded by groceries which checked in with an alibi that she left to walk to a grocery store and while on her way back, she was hit from behind. Two months after she died, Floyd placed michael in foster care and fled the state. It wasn't until 1994 when Michael's foster parents were getting ready to adopt him. Somewhere before that point, six months after Michael was put in foster care, Floyd was arrested on a parole violation and during his time in jail, dor the adoption proceedings they had to do a dna test with Floyd and Michael and it ruled out that Floyd was not Michael's father. After Floyd was released from jail, he went back to okc and tried to regain custody of Michael but because of his criminal records and because he was not Michael's father, they denied his custody request. On September 12, 1994, Hughes was in the first grade at Indian Meridian Elementary School in Choctaw, Oklahoma. Floyd walked into the school and forced Principal James Davis at gun point to take him to Hughes' classroom. Floyd then forced Hughes and Davis into his pickup truck. Floyd forced Davis out of the truck in a wooded area, handcuffed him to a tree, and sped off with Michael. The principal survived the abduction and was rescued. Two months later, Floyd was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky. Hughes was not with him and has not been seen since. Authorities have received conflicting reports as to what has happened to Hughes. Some witness statements detail alleged confessions by Floyd regarding Hughes' death. According to these reports, Floyd reportedly told his sister and others that he drowned the child in a motel bathtub in Georgia shortly after the kidnapping. Another person claimed he saw Floyd bury Hughes' body in a cemetery. Still other sources reported that Floyd had stated that Hughes was still alive and safe, although Floyd had refused to disclose the boy's exact location or who was caring for him. In a 2015 interview with the FBI, Floyd admitted to killing Hughes the same day of the kidnapping by shooting him twice in the back of the head. Commesso's 1989 disappearance remained unsolved until her skeletal remains were found in 1995 by a landscaper in an area off Interstate 275 in Pinellas County, Florida. She was listed as a Jane Doe until a year later, when the remains were identified. An anthropologist determined that she died from a beating and two gunshots to the head. Floyd and Susan had been persons of interest in the case after witnesses reported what happened outside of the club. In March 1995, a mechanic in Kansas found a large envelope stuffed between the truck bed and the top of the gas tank of a truck he had recently purchased at an auction. He found 97 photographs in the envelope, including many photographs of a woman who was bound and severely beaten. The police traced the truck to Floyd, who had stolen the truck in Oklahoma in September 1994 (the month and year he kidnapped Michael) and he abandoned it in Texas the following month. Investigators compared the photographs of the injured woman with Cheryl Commesso, as well as evidence found with her remains, and found that the clothing in the photographs were similar. The medical examiner also compared injuries seen in the photograph to the cheekbone of Commesso's skull and found that they were consistent. Many of the pictures contained images of furniture and other belongings identified as belonging to Floyd. He was tried and convicted for Commesso's murder on the basis of the photographic evidence found in the truck. The investigation into the kidnapping of Michael Anthony Hughes as well as the earlier kidnapping of his mother are ongoing. Other photos found in the truck show sexual abuse of Susan starting very early in her childhood. Authorities found photos of her in sexually explicit poses at various ages, starting around age four. In September 2014, Floyd admitted to the murder of Michael Hughes, and had disposed of his body on Interstate 35. A search of the area yielded no results, and police presume that wild hogs may have eaten Hughes' body. Susan Sevakis remains are buried in Tulsa, ok where for many years she was still known as Sharon Marshall because police were still trying to investigate who she really was. Finally in 2014, they discovered her true identity through dna testing and linked her back to her real mother, Chipman. Such a sad tragedy... When I look at her photos, I see the sadness and every last bit of pain she had endured. When I look into her eyes, I see the look of uncertainty and worry. This poor woman was let down by the system. The system failed her greatly in life and it was the justice system who failed to protect her as a child. Her life was taken, and her dreams and hopes of her future were shattered. And that innocent little boy's life was taken from him unfairly and unjustly just when his brand new life was just beginning. Floyd remains on death row but sadly it is only for the death of Commesso. This man should be charged for the deaths and kidnappings of Susan and Michael as well. This outrages me very much so that justice has yet to be served on behalf of Susan and Michael... |
