On 21st July 1999 in Raymond, Racine County, Wisconsin, USA, the body of a young woman was discovered in a field by a man + his daughter who were walking their dog. The woman had been dead for around a day.

An autopsy revealed that the young lady had died after many weeks of abuse. She had been burned, beaten + sexually abused. Along with bruises, cuts + a fractured nose, she had a "cauliflower ear" deformity that may have been caused by the abuse. The young lady's injuries had become infected, leading to her contracting sepsis + pneumonia. Her body had been dragged near the field + dumped.

A funeral was held for the woman, which 50 people attended, on 27th October that year.

On 16th October 2013, the body was exhumed for further examination. On 19th July 2015, the examination was completed + she was re-buried 2 days later. Then in November 2019, the woman was finally identified as 23 year old Peggy Lynn Johnson-Schroeder.

The suspect's name was also revealed as being Linda Sue LaRoche, now aged 63. Linda had confessed to several people that she had killed someone in the 90s. The police were notified on 23rd September + Linda was charged with first-degree intentional homicide + concealment of a corpse.

Linda + Peggy had first met in 1994. Peggy's mother had died + left her homeless. Peggy had gone to a medical centre, begging for help. Linda, who worked as a nurse at the centre, took Peggy in + employed her as her own housekeeper. Peggy was given room + board for her work around the house + looking after Linda's 5 children. Despite there being the 5 children + Linda's husband in the house, Peggy was subjected to emotional + physical abuse. The conditions in which she had to live in were poor + she was malnourished.

When the children were questioned about Peggy, they didn't hesitate to give details. They said that their mother's behaviour towards Peggy was vile. The abuse they witnessed included their mother stabbing Peggy in the head with a pitchfork, giving her a black eye + forcing her to live in the crawlspace of the house.

Linda's now ex-husband, stated that, upon returning home, he had found Peggy lying lifeless on the floor. Linda told him that Peggy had overdosed, though she did not get her the medical assistance that she needed. Linda's husband had taken the children out for ice cream + upon their return, Peggy was gone, never to be seen again. Linda told her family that she had taken Peggy to her grandmother. Later on, during the autopsy, it was revealed that Peggy did not have any drugs in her system.

Peggy's body was exhumed + buried next to her mother in Belvidere, Illinois.

Linda was sent to Racine County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing was set for the morning of 9th January 2020.

I came across this case a few days ago on a YouTube video + decided to research it. Though, I did find a great deal so I could do a write up + post a good amount of photos, lots of American news sites do not allow visitors from Europe so I couldn't access a lot of news links.
