Decapitation of Maria Suarez-Cassagne by Christian Gomez
The crime scene was one of the worst Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said he could remember. A 48-year-old woman was found decapitated at her home, her son accused of swinging the ax that killed her.
Christian Jose Gomez, 23, has been charged with first degree murder for the brutal New Year’s Eve crime. Gomez had a history of mental problems, including a diagnosis of schizophrenia, the sheriff said. In 2013, he was held for a mandatory mental evaluation under the law known as the Baker Act. In that case, Gomez started waving a skateboard at a passer-by and making incoherent comments, according to Gualtieri. After cutting off his mother's head off, he carried it out of the garage and put it in a trash can outside the house. Next, he dragged his mothers body outside but was unable to hoist it into the trash. Gomez then left the house on his bicycle. At the time, the teenage daughter was out of the house working at a pizza restaurant, but the older brother Mario Gomez was home in his room. He heard some kind of thumping, not realizing it was the swinging of an ax, and came out to see what was wrong. He discovered his mother's body.
At the police station, Gomez calmly and matter-of-factly told police that he had been planning to kill his mother for a couple of days. Why? asked one of the detectives. The suspect explained that the victim had infuriated him with her constant nagging about putting some boxes away in the attic. He said he just couldn't take it anymore, so he had to kill her. The local prosecutor charged Christian Gomez with first-degree murder. After police booked the mentally disturbed man into the Pinellas County Jail, the judge immediately denied him bond. Here is the initial summary from the deputies responding to the scene in Oldsmar, Florida. Not a lot of information is available on this case due to the fact it is still working it's way through the court system. Yet below you can see a small picture of the crime scene, it appears this was taken after police or firefighters tried to clean clean it up a little. Even though this case has not been resolved in the courts, the mods here at Documenting Reality were able to get our hands on the autopsy report which includes the toxicology results on Maria Suarez-Cassagne, which is included here in PDF format. If anyone comes by more crime scene pictures, please submit them via the contribute link above.

Well, as a former resident of Tampa Bay I am proud the state continues to be an early contributor to this forum. Life in the high desert isn't nearly as exciting. |

I just can't ever begin to imagine what it's like for parents who are killed by their children in their last moments.

Re: Decapitation of Maria Suarez-Cassagne by Christian Gomez
That is probably the scariest-looking actual person I've ever seen. I am not victim-blaming here, but he was 23 and his brother was 29 or so. Why were they still living with their mother!? |
