Brutal Crime Driven By Jealousy & Revenge Of Ex-Girlfriend
The Relationship That Changed Everything It all started when Raíssa got involved in a relationship with a 15-year-old teenager. What seemed like an innocent connection soon turned into something abusive. The partner showed excessive jealousy, controlled Raíssa's steps and resorted to threats and physical and psychological violence. Raíssa's family disapproved of the relationship not because it was between two girls, but because of the negative impact it had on their daughter. Raíssa moved away from her relatives, neglected her studies and even disappeared for 20 days the previous year, staying with her girlfriend. The parents sought help from the Guardianship Council and the police, concerned about their daughter's behavior, but the interventions were not enough to break the cycle. The breakup, which lasted about a year and a half, occurred two months before the crime. Raíssa decided to end the relationship, but continued to be persecuted and threatened by her ex-girlfriend, who did not accept the separation. This obsessive jealousy was pointed out as the main motivation for what would follow. The Crime At Maria Farinha Beach On the morning of June 25, 2019, Raíssa was lured to Maria Farinha Beach, in Paulista. There, she was attacked by two teenagers: her ex-girlfriend, 15, and another 16-year-old girl. What followed was a scene of horror that lasted approximately two hours. Raíssa was beaten, tortured and stabbed to death. To make matters worse, the aggressors filmed the act and the video was shared on social networks, spreading the trauma beyond the crime scene. The release of the images became an additional crime investigated by the authorities. The police acted quickly. The two teenagers were apprehended on the same day and sent to the Foundation for Socio-Educational Care (Funase). One of them already had a history of crimes, including robbery and attempted murder, and was serving a socio-educational measure in semi-freedom. The investigations confirmed jealousy as the trigger, but also revealed a pattern of youth violence that worried society. The Family's Pain The news of Raíssa's death devastated her family. The father learned of what happened in a cruel way: when he saw the video circulating while he was in a snack bar. He described his state as "destroyed from within" and warned other parents about the dangers of destructive relationships in adolescence. The mother, Gerlane Sotero, was inconsolable and needed medical attention at the Forensic Medical Institute (IML). She organized protests and called for justice, saying: "What they did to my daughter was cruelty. She didn't deserve this. I had my whole life ahead of me." Raíssa's body was taken to the IML in Recife and buried the next day, June 26, in the Santo Amaro Cemetery. Friends from the school paid tribute, remembering his cheerful and affectionate personality. On July 1, family and friends held a demonstration in Recife, with posters calling for the perpetrators of the crime to be kept interned until they reached the age of majority, when they could be transferred to the adult prison system, such as the Bom Pastor Women's Penal Colony. The Impact On Society The case of Raíssa Sotero Rezende was not just an isolated tragedy; He highlighted serious problems such as abusive relationships between adolescents, gender violence and impunity in the socio-educational system. The spread of online video has broadened the debate about the risks of social media and the need for greater vigilance over violent content. The crime reverberated in media outlets across the country and inspired discussions in podcasts and programs about true crimes, serving as a warning for parents, educators and young people. Years after the event, Raíssa's memory lives on as a symbol of innocence lost to violence. Her story reinforces the importance of identifying signs of abuse early and supporting victims before it's too late. In a world where adolescence should be marked by discoveries and joys, Raíssa's fate reminds everyone of the fragility of life and the urgency to fight cruelty. |
