Typhoon Shanshan Hits Kyushu with 250 km/h Winds

On Thursday, Typhoon Shanshan made landfall in Kagoshima Prefecture, bringing heavy rain and intense winds to southwestern Japan.

Authorities classified it as a strong typhoon. The storm brought winds reported at 250 km/h and storm surge, disrupted daily life, and caused widespread damage.

More than a quarter of a million households across the region lost power after the storm knocked out parts of the electrical grid.
