Petronas Gas Pipeline Fire In Putra Heights, Malaysia, April 1, 2025
A Petronas gas pipeline ruptured and caught fire in Putra Heights, Malaysia, at about 8:08 a.m. on April 1, 2025, sending a column of flame about 30 meters high above nearby homes. The fire broke out along Jalan Putra Harmoni in Subang Jaya, Selangor. No one was killed, but about 150 people sought medical treatment and about 538 were displaced. The final assessment recorded about 81 houses destroyed and another 81 partly destroyed. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 3:45 p.m. An investigation led by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health found that soft, moist ground had left a section of pipe unsupported, causing it to fail. The findings were announced in late June 2025. Police said they found no sabotage, criminal intent or negligence, and investigators ruled out nearby construction, excavation and fireworks. Dashcam footage captured the ignition and initial fireball. Other recordings showed the sustained flame column, while photographs documented burned vehicles and damaged houses. |
