Pavel Smirnov Survives Lightning Strike in Batumi, Georgia, September 11, 2024
Pavel Smirnov, a 32-year-old Russian tourist, survived a lightning strike on a pier in Batumi, Georgia, on the evening of September 11, 2024. He was on holiday with his brother and friends and was filming dance videos during a thunderstorm when he was struck. Smirnov's clothes caught fire, and his brother extinguished his burning T-shirt. Friends called an ambulance and kept him conscious until it arrived. He was taken to Batumi's Republican Hospital with burns to his abdomen, back and legs. Doctors said his life was not in danger and continued testing him. Video shows two men dancing on the pier at sunset, a distant view of a figure falling and people gathering around him, followed by Smirnov lying conscious on the pier with reddened skin. |

He told he saw a tunnel of light and felt like he was burning in hell and thought he was disabled due to complete loss of sensation in his limbs. Friends and brother provided crucial first aid, putting out flames and calling an ambulance. Doctors say Pavel was extremely lucky to survive. Further examinations scheduled, with potential discharge in 2-3 days. |
