Re: Maui/Lahaina Wild Fires 8/2023
you let m drain the wetland, yep it had little canals once, and then you pump up too much water for monoculture you collect the extra tax reductions for "agro-industrial endeavour" you let m place electricity poles and wires that are not storm wind resistant you encourage m to place wooden buildings too close together you postpone maintenance on civilian and natural infrastucture you ignore fall out routines and redundancy in the electrical network it only takes 1 spark... |

Re: Maui/Lahaina Wild Fires 8/2023
wondering why the death count stalled out for the last couple days while they still say over 1000 are "missing". Some internet theories: 1. the death count won't rise much as many got out but lack of cell/internet service is stalling verification of the survivors (I would have believed this on day 1-2-3 but not anymore) 2. The 80 mph winds and highly combustible materials (houses, tires, fuel/gasoline, etc) created incinerator temperatures causing most of the bodies to be basically cremated, and along with the high winds blowing the ashed/remains away (I'm starting to buy into this since they still say some areas are too hot for searching/dogs) 3. They are finding bodies as they search but are no longer making the count public as they realize the number of dead is going to be so high (over 1000?) that they need to spin this/come up with some sort of narrative to protect the city, state, fire, police, civil defense/tsunami warning system personnel, etc, as the local public & survivors begin to realize how bad this really is and seek revenge, justice. (starting to think this may also be playing out) time will tell! |

There was no water at fire hydrants, according to residents. Wonder what happened there. |
