Massive Boulder Detached from a Mountainside Hits Highway
On February 25, 2026, a security camera captured the dramatic moment a massive boulder detached from a mountainside and crushed into a section of the Pan-American Highway in Nariño, Colombia. The incident occurred in the Pilcuán Viejo sector, specifically between the cities of Pasto and Ipiales. The falling rock completely blocked the dual carriageway, which serves as the primary land artery connecting Colombia with Ecuador. In addition to the road damage, the landslide impacted five homes in the area, resulting in the total destruction of one residence. Miraculously, local authorities reported no injuries or deaths. |
