Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake in Beibu Gulf Near Beihai
China Earthquake Networks Center reported a magnitude 5.0 earthquake in Beibu Gulf on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Preliminary data put the quake at 3:07 am local time at a shallow depth of 20 kilometers. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The agency said the magnitude and other parameters may change as seismic data is processed. The epicenter was 38 kilometers from Weizhou Island in Beihai City, Guangxi.
