The ceiling of a gym on Camden Street in Dublin gave way during heavy rain on the afternoon of July 30, 2019.

Rainwater built up above the back room. People inside noticed the ceiling was under pressure and had time to move equipment clear before it opened and the water came through. Nobody was hurt, and the gym said none of its equipment was lost.

The rain that afternoon was heavy enough that Dublin City Council called it an unpredicted and sudden extreme rainfall event. Gauges recorded 16.8 mm in a quarter of an hour at Terenure and 11.4 mm at Rathmines, with up to 60 mm falling in parts of the east. Manholes lifted, city centre basements flooded, the National Gallery was evacuated as a precaution, and lightning knocked out rail signalling west of the city, suspending services for about three hours.

The gym carried on in the rest of the building and expected builders in within the week.
