Force 10 Winds and Hail Hit Multiple Chinese Provinces
On April 19, a strong cold air system moved rapidly across China, triggering widespread severe convective weather in northern, central, and southwestern regions. The storm hit multiple provinces with force 10 winds and hail. The rapid southward advance of cold air met warm, moist air already in place ahead of it, making the atmosphere highly unstable and allowing strong thunderstorms to develop in a short period of time.
