The MV Eemslift Hendrika was abandoned off Norway after cargo shifted in heavy weather, leaving the vessel at serious risk of sinking. The crew were evacuated.

The ship lost engine power after being placed on autopilot and drifted in the North Sea. A green workboat stowed on deck was washed overboard, taking the boom from one of the ship's cranes with it. The workboat was later reported floating upright about 1.3 nautical miles from the vessel.

Three tugs and an anchor-handling vessel were chartered to intercept the ship, while a coast guard vessel monitored the situation before salvage operations began.
