Dongting Lake Dike Breach Floods Villages in Hunan
A serious breach occurred on July 5 in the Dongting Lake dike at Tuanzhou Dike in Huarong County, Hunan Province. Dongting Lake is China's second-largest lake, and floodwaters were rising in the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake basin. The breach widened to more than 150 meters, forcing the urgent evacuation of about 5,000 residents from surrounding areas. Villages were reported under water.
