Bridgewater Canal Collapse Amid Greater Manchester Flooding
Torrential rain battered north-west England on New Year's Day, with more than 100 flood warnings issued across parts of the United Kingdom. Greater Manchester was among the worst-hit areas. Flooding was reported in Bolton, Didsbury, Stockport, Harpurhey, and Wigan, and the Bridgewater Canal was reported to have collapsed. At Meadow Mill in Stockport, around 400 residents were trapped in flats without electricity or running water.
