Two Killed When Piper PA-42 Cheyenne Crashes in Sorocaba, Brazil
An incident unfolded in Sorocaba, Brazil, on the afternoon of Friday, March 31, when a Piper PA-42 Cheyenne aircraft crashed, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. A disturbing video recorded by a local resident showed people looting the crash site before police arrived, taking items from the wreckage. The aircraft, operated by Itapara Sport Fishing and registered as PP-EPB, was on a positioning flight from Manaus to Sorocaba. The victims were identified as Milton José Cardille, 56, and Jumara Nogueira Vieira, 32. The plane, a twin turboprop, crashed in Jardim Novo Horizonte, north of the city, close to residential areas but fortunately did not hit any homes. A local painter, living near the crash site, witnessed the incident. He reported hearing the plane making unusual noises before the crash and, fearing an explosion, stayed indoors. From his vantage point, he observed the looting of the victims' belongings. Delegate Luciane Regina Bachir, overseeing the investigation, confirmed that an incident report had been filed. The video footage capturing the looting will be used in the investigation, with potential arrests of those identified. The crash site attracted numerous onlookers, some of whom compromised a makeshift barrier and accidentally caused a woman to fall into an open pit, injuring her leg. The resident who recorded the looting also helped extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but retreated to his home due to fear. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) noted that the Sorocaba airport was included in the flight plan, with Campinas airport as an alternative. The crash occurred just yards from the runway 18 threshold, following the aircraft's collision with trees during its final approach. Emergency services, including the Fire Department, Military and Civil Police, Civil Defense, and the PM's Eagle Helicopter, were promptly dispatched to the site. SERIPA (Regional Investigation and Accident Prevention Service) teams were called to begin the accident investigation. Police reports indicated a fuel leak, but thankfully, no further fires occurred as the area was swiftly contained. |

Turbo-prop engine, that means jet fuel. Bet they put avgas in the tanks instead. That used to happen here in the states quite a bit.
