South Sudanese Airliner Crash Lands at Wau Airport
On March 20, 2017, a South Sudan Supreme Airlines Antonov An-26 aircraft was destroyed by fire after landing at Wau Airport in South Sudan. The plane was on a domestic flight from Juba Airport with 40 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Upon landing, the aircraft experienced an in-flight fire. Eyewitness reports indicated smoke coming from the tail as the plane landed. The left landing gear collapsed, leading to the aircraft being engulfed in flames. Remarkably, all 45 occupants survived, although 37 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. |
