After further looking at the pics, I am virtually certain they went straight in. Look at the alignment of the cockpit struts, they are pulled straight forward. Look at the top wing in one of the pics, and the wings are bent forward from the center. This would indicate they hit on the nose of the aircraft.

That looks a lot more like a plane than the ultralights I've seen... and it didn't ball up like most aircraft do on impact- plane or ultralight |
