Two Dead, 18 Injured in Small Plane Crash Near Los Angeles
Two Dead, 18 Injured in Small Plane Crash Near Los Angeles 03.01.2025 - Two people were killed and 18 others were injured after a small plane crashed onto the roof of a commercial building in the city of Fullerton on Thursday, Xinhua reported, citing local authorities. The incident occurred at around 2.09pm local time (2209 GMT), about 40 kilometres southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The crash sparked a large fire and forced businesses in the area to be evacuated, said Fullerton police spokeswoman Kristy Wells. Video footage from local news channel KABC showed white smoke billowing from the top of a building surrounded by residential areas and commercial warehouses. So far, the type of aircraft involved has not been identified, Wells said. Original news https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/730562 |

Re: Two Dead, 18 Injured in Small Plane Crash Near Los Angeles
I replayed FlightRadar24 traffic in the vicinity of Fullerton (KFUL) around 2200 UTC Jan 2. The accident aircraft appears to be N8757R. The aircraft departed from Fullerton and then immediately turned back and attempted to return to the airport. That suggests some sort of problem. (I wonder if it was an engine failure, since the aircraft was getting lower and slower and my guess would be it stalled when trying to turn left from base to final). Here's the FlightRadar24 replay of the flight: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/a...8757r#3892ec2e (I tried to attach a screenshot of that, but a 700k image is not acceptable to DR). And, just as I wrote this, ASN published their first information on the incident: https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/469542 |

Attached is the 3D track of the aircraft - created by me in Google Earth based on KML data downloaded from FT24. Tells the story. :( Aircraft took off left to right and travelled in a counter-clockwise direction. You can see the building it hit. |

Re: Two Dead, 18 Injured in Small Plane Crash Near Los Angeles
Here's the ATC audio from Fullerton Municipal Airport (KFUL) from the accident aircraft's takeoff to crash. Edited (by me) to remove silence and irrelevant audio. The last few seconds are truly horrifying as you can hear the pilot hyperventilating and panicking as he goes down. :( |

Re: Two Dead, 18 Injured in Small Plane Crash Near Los Angeles
Here is real-time (not trimmed) ATC audio synchronized with the FR24 replay (sync'd as best I can, due to not all ADS-B data being shown by FR24). I did not post the plyback Scott Manley posted on Twitter because the last part of the ATC was censored, the aircraft was incorrect and it included fake audio such as a running engine. |

The chopper in the video sounds like it's engine is ready to stall too...

akham Excellent work with that stuff you should have your own YouTube channel like Juan Browne or Denys. I'm wondering why he didn't continue with his original plan of going back to Runway 6 and instead tried to fly a traffic pattern to 24. You can see in the ADSb data he was losing altitude the whole way probably nursing an engine that was making partial power. Tower controller did a good job of staying calm and clearing the traffic. Even though the pilot didn't specifically declare an emergency or mayday the controller clearly new what needed to be done. |
