Trigana Air Service Cargo Plane Has Hard Landing
On the morning of September 13, 2016, a Trigana Air Service cargo plane, loaded with fuel and other essential supplies, experienced a runway mishap during its landing at Wamena Airport in Papua. The incident occurred as the aircraft was attempting to land on runway 33, ending up approximately 2 kilometers from its intended landing spot. Ahmad Bambang, the Marketing Director for Pertamina, confirmed in a statement to detik, an online news portal, that there were no fatalities. He also assured that the cargo, including the fuel load, remained secure. The flight, which originated from Sentani Airport in Papua, took off around 6:55 am local time. Upon its approach to Wamena Airport, the aircraft failed to land properly and skidded along the runway. Fortunately, the pilot, co-pilot, and a technician aboard the aircraft were able to evacuate safely. Subsequently, emergency firefighting teams responded to the scene and successfully extinguished a fire that had broken out in the plane's left engine, which sustained significant damage. The cargo plane was transporting over 14 tonnes of essential items, including fuel, rice, and sugar. Bambang indicated plans to transfer these supplies to another aircraft to ensure they reach their intended destination, despite the mishap. |
