SafariLink Aircraft Crashes After Colliding with Several Wildebeests
A SafariLink aircraft, a DHC-8-200, experienced a left-hand landing gear failure during its landing at Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, after colliding with several wildebeests on the runway. The incident, which highlights the unique challenges of aviation in wildlife-rich areas, occurred as the aircraft was completing its landing phase. The collision with the wildebeests, a common species in the reserve, led to the malfunction of the aircraft's left-hand landing gear, complicating the landing process. SafariLink, a well-known operator in the region providing air transportation to various destinations within Kenya, has an established safety record. The airstrips in the Maasai Mara are frequently used by tourists visiting the national reserve, known for its abundant wildlife and safari experiences. The incident at Kichwa Tembo Airstrip underscores the unpredictable nature of operating flights in areas where wildlife is present. These conditions require pilots and ground staff to be particularly vigilant to ensure safe operations. |

Re: SafariLink Aircraft Crashes After Colliding with Several Wildebeests
I was present at the crash of the last Safarilink aircraft at KTC, on July 10th 2008. That one was a Let 410. Pilot error from the FO, who was killed less than a month later when he flew an aircraft into a TV transmitter on approach to Mogadishu. I have images (no gore, sorry) but not sure how to attach them here.
