Russian Carrier Utair Suffers Landing Accident in Komi Republic

A Boeing 737-500 belonging to Russian carrier Utair faced a landing mishap on a wintry runway in Russia's Komi republic, leading to the evacuation of the aircraft.

The incident occurred during the UT595 service from Moscow Vnukovo to Usinsk airport on February 9. Utair attributed the accident to a sudden and unpredictable windshear during landing, resulting in the collapse of the landing gear while the aircraft was on the runway.

Remarkably, the experienced crew's swift and professional actions allowed them to keep the aircraft on the runway until it came to a complete stop. The captain had logged 6,900 hours on this aircraft type, and the first officer had accumulated 3,600 flight hours. Among the 94 passengers on board, one sought medical attention for a minor injury.

Utair promptly dispatched specialists to Usinsk to analyze flight data and determine the root causes of the incident.

Images circulating on social media depicted the aircraft with its main undercarriage collapsed, resting on its engines in a direction perpendicular to the runway. Evacuation slides were utilized to safely disembark passengers.

"It says the crew was “experienced”, with the captain having logged 6,900 hours on type and the first officer 3,600h."

Experienced at what, farming? They certainly know how to plant stuff! What's the Russian word for 'flare'?
