Body Recovery From Central American Airways Flight 731

Here are some pictures, including body recovery, form the Central American Airways flight 731 that crashed on February 14, 2011. All 14 aboard died

On February 14, 2011, Central American Airways Flight 731, operated by a Let L-410 Turbolet aircraft, tragically crashed while on approach to Toncontín International Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. All 14 individuals on board, including 12 passengers and 2 crew members, perished in the accident.

The aircraft, with registration HR-AUQ and serial number 912603, first flew in 1991 and had served with various airlines before being operated by Central American Airways. Among the victims were notable figures, including a cabinet minister, an assistant secretary, a former finance secretary, and a union leader, with two American and one Canadian national also confirmed as casualties.

The first officer was initially found alive amid the wreckage but tragically succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. In response to this devastating event, the government of Honduras declared three days of national mourning for the deceased government officials.

The investigation, conducted by Honduras' Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC), indicated that weather played a significant role in the crash. The aircraft was flying at a speed just above its stall speed during approach, making it particularly susceptible to wind shear under such conditions.

The DGAC report found that the flight crew did not adhere to any published approach procedure and likely misinterpreted the altimeter and airspeed indicators. There was inadequate communication and crew resource management, with no approach briefing conducted for either of the two approaches attempted. Additionally, the aircraft was prematurely configured for landing while still at a considerable distance from the runway, increasing its vulnerability to wind shear.
