21.08.2025 - The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has confirmed that an F/A-18D Hornet fighter aircraft was involved in an accident incident at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport, last night. The RMAF Public Relations Division in a statement said that the accident occurred at 9.05pm when the aircraft was in the runway area of the air base. So far, the RMAF has not confirmed whether there were any injuries or loss of life in the incident.

"The RMAF is currently taking immediate action and will inform you of the current developments regarding the accident incident. All parties are requested not to spread any speculation or inauthentic news," the statement said.

RMAF Immediately Suspends Hornet

22.08.2025 - The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has decided to suspend all flight operations involving F/A 18D Hornet fighter aircraft effective today. This was announced by RMAF Commander Muhamad Norazlan Aris in a special press conference at Kuantan air base, Pahang, this morning. Muhamad Norazlan said the decision was made to facilitate the Investigation Board to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident of the fighter plane crashing during takeoff last night. Muhamad Norazlan also confirmed that the two crew members who were on board the fighter aircraft were safe and did not suffer serious injuries.

"The pilot of the plane was Major Azhar Alang Kamarudin, 34, while the weapons censor, Captain Mohamad Izzuddin Mohamad Salleh, 28. Major Azhar suffered burn injuries on his left leg, while Captain Mohamad Izzuddin was only found to have bruises on several parts of his body," he said.

The plane, however, was 100 per cent destroyed, said Muhamad Norazlan. In the incident at 9.05 pm last night, an F/A-18D Hornet fighter aircraft belonging to the RMAF was involved in an accident incident during take-off at the runway area of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport (Kuantan Air Base). According to the police, a RMAF pilot and assistant pilot were reported safe and taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for examination. Muhamad Norazlan explained that the pilot and gun sensor of the aircraft were experienced officers.

"They have the number of flight hours in accordance with the existing experience. So, because of the experience and level of preparedness they have, the injuries suffered by them are very minimal," he added.

He said the incident occurred when the aircraft was on a night flight training operation which is routine for RMAF pilots. Commenting on the time frame of the investigation into the incident, Muhamad Norazlan said the Investigation Board is expected to get a preliminary report within 14 days.

RMAF Pilots Allowed To Leave Hospital

22.08.2025 - Two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) fighter jet pilots involved in a plane crash incident at Kuantan Air Base, here, last night, have been discharged from the hospital. Sources said the two victims suffered minor injuries and were discharged from the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) early this morning. He said the pilot of the aircraft with the rank of Major suffered injuries to the spine (coccus) as well as burns on the back of his left heel. Another victim with the rank of Captain only suffered soft tissue injuries to the back of his body and thighs.



According to the source, both victims were referred to the Emergency and Trauma Department, HTAA, at around 10pm yesterday.
