Remains of TANS Peru Flight 204 That Crashed in the Jungle

On August 24, 2005, a devastating plane crash occurred involving TANS Peru Flight 204, a Boeing 737-200. The flight, carrying 100 people, was en route from the Peruvian capital, Lima, to the Amazon jungle city of Pucallpa. During the flight, the pilot attempted an emergency landing about 20 miles from Pucallpa due to violent weather conditions.

The aircraft attempted to land in a marsh to soften the impact, but the landing resulted in the plane splitting in two. Survivors described experiencing severe turbulence before the crash and escaping the burning wreckage in a hailstorm, wading through knee-deep mud to reach safety.

The crash tragically resulted in the deaths of at least 41 passengers. Additionally, 56 people were treated at hospitals for their injuries. Rescue operations were hampered by darkness and adverse weather conditions, leading to a suspension of the search for bodies in the wreckage until the following day.

What a devastating mess. Poor people. If there were any survivors, bet they also had shocking splinters from those trees. Sorry, these things come into my mind!

I think this is the one where a brand new Gulfstream jet, being delivered to its new owner (maiden flight), clipped the underside of this plane at like 30,000 feet. The Gulfstream did not have its radar on. Pilots were actually arrested and tried, never heard the outcome.

The violence of a plane crash is just mind-boggling. This one isn't even so bad, as most of the bodies are intact, but imagine nosediving into the ground at 500 mph like PSA 182 or USAir 427.
