In the Scottish city of Glasgow, a police helicopter crashed into the roof of a pub filled with Friday-night revelers, creating a chaotic scene as patrons fled and emergency responders rushed to the scene. While there were no immediate official reports of casualties, witnesses recounted seeing individuals who appeared to be injured evacuating The Clutha pub following the crash. Christina O'Neill, who resides across the street from the pub, shared her account, stating, "I know there were a lot of people lying on the ground kind of getting looked into." Social media posts included images showing a significant presence of fire trucks, police vehicles, and ambulances surrounding the single-story building, with the wreckage of the helicopter visible from above. The incident occurred after 10 p.m. local time, while patrons were enjoying a performance by the self-styled ska band Esperanza, which had taken the stage shortly before the crash. Christina O'Neill recalled the moment of impact, saying, "Basically I heard what sounded like a plane going too low, and I thought that didn't sound right for a couple of seconds. Then I just heard a massive crash...I looked out to the car park and thought it might have been just a car crash. It does sound quite devastating at the moment." Following the impact, O'Neill witnessed smoke and people fleeing the scene. Hours later, the police helicopter, marked with the word "police" on its damaged tail, was still smoldering. Scottish government leader Alex Salmond confirmed the involvement of a police helicopter in the tragic accident, adding that rescue efforts were in full operation and urging preparedness for the possibility of fatalities due to the scale of the incident. Those killed include: Gary Arthur, David Traill, Tony Collins and Kirsty Nelis |

They saw smoke but kept on playing/listening to music? Wow. Good thing no one was killed, at least that we know of so far.

Eight people are now known to have died after a police helicopter crashed into a busy pub in Glasgow last night. The three aircraft crew - two officers and a civilian pilot - were among those killed, Police Scotland said. Five other people lost their lives in the Clutha bar after the helicopter came through the roof of the lively city nightspot. |
