In Illinois, a tragic incident occurred on Saturday when two individuals lost their lives following an emergency landing attempt by a small aircraft on a city street.

The aircraft, identified as a Mooney M20K single-engine plane, was attempting an emergency landing on Route 116 in Hanna City. Witnesses reported hearing sputtering sounds from the plane as it inadvertently struck several buildings during its landing attempt.

Tragically, a woman aboard the plane died upon impact. A man, also in the plane, was rescued by first responders but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. It remains unclear which of the two was piloting the aircraft at the time of the crash.

An autopsy for the victims is scheduled by the Peoria County coroner for Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct an investigation into the incident.

In a related event, a man who attempted to break the plane's window to assist potential victims immediately after the crash was briefly detained and handcuffed by the police but was not arrested. This action was presumably taken in the chaotic moments following the crash as emergency services responded to the scene.

Are you a pilot? Have you ever been in a situation like this? Basic instinct is to survive bud, if this "asshole" was having engine problems or whatever, this straight road was a pretty good emergency landing spot. That's why it's called an emergency landing, you don't really have time to look at a map or pick and choose where and when you're going to crash land.

NTSB is not as good at investigating private crashes as they are at larger crashes, but I still like to wait to read the report before I speculate what happened too much
