A British Airways plane faced a harrowing emergency situation, leading to an unscheduled landing at Heathrow Airport. Eyewitnesses in central London reported seeing the aircraft in a state of flames as it flew overhead.

Jamie, an eyewitness, recounted the dramatic scene, stating, "As you looked up, you could just see the flames being expelled from the engine... It was fully engulfed in flames when we saw it."

In response to the incident, British Airways canceled a total of 186 flights, including all short-haul flights to and from the West London airport until 4 pm. Passengers experienced delays of up to 40 minutes for departures and 25 minutes for arrivals.

Initially, both runways were closed, with the London Fire Brigade confirming their response to an "aircraft fire." However, the runways have since been reopened.

This disruption occurred during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, as people embarked on journeys for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Heathrow's Chief Operating Officer, Normand Boivin, noted, "The temporary closure will result in a number of canceled flights throughout the day, and passengers are advised to check the status of their flight with their airline before traveling to the airport."

While the incident on the Oslo-bound plane is not believed to be related to terrorism, all passengers remained safe and unharmed.

Sky News presenter Jeremy Thompson, on a separate flight approaching Heathrow, was informed by the pilot that their delay was due to a "bird strike" involving another plane.

British Airways released a statement regarding the incident, explaining that Flight BA762, which departed from Heathrow at 8:16 am, returned at 8:43 am due to an engine technical fault. The Airbus A319 aircraft had 75 customers and five crew members on board. The plane executed a safe landing, and passengers were evacuated using emergency slides. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, with British Airways collaborating with the Air Accident Investigation Bureau to determine the cause.

wtf? I was just at the store and saw this being mentioned on the news. they said there were reports of two people supposedly being arrested or suspected of some kind of threats. but how would these people set a plane on fire? lol. maybe there was just something wrong with the plane itself.
