Pilot Pronounced Dead After Duxford Plane Crash
Pilot Pronounced Dead After Duxford Plane Crash A pilot has died after a private plane crashed at a well-known airfield. Emergency services were called to the Imperial War Museum (IWM) in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, at about 13:41 GMT on Tuesday. A man in his 50s, from Bedfordshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation. The plane was a privately-owned General Aviation Cirrus SR22, based at Duxford. Re: Pilot Pronounced Dead After Duxford Plane Crash
Was that a WARPS chute deploying at the end? A bit out of the envelope for a successful outcome. Wm. May, Hogman, PA28 pilot? Please chime in. |

Re: Pilot Pronounced Dead After Duxford Plane Crash
That's the rocket used to deploy the CAPS system. No use in that scenario. What was the pilot thinking? Too slow, bank angle of around 90 degrees with no altitude to arrest the inevitable sink. Just dumb. |

They frequently fire as a result of crash impact. Highly unlikely it was pilot deployed.

Re: Pilot Pronounced Dead After Duxford Plane Crash
It was not a CAPS system chute , it was an ejector seat built into the aircraft which deployed on impact, sadly too late !
