Re: Atlas Air Emergency Landing

This is neither a crash nor a disaster it's a contained engine failure. The plane turned around and landed without incident. Nothing to see here

Re: Atlas Air Emergency Landing

1 broken blade can cause more broken blades

I think that when this happens in th e front part, where air gets compressed, it can form a cluster
the prop can get ejected sideways by unwanted explosive events

An engine like that, one small piece coming loose can cause that.

I looked up registration, this aircraft was one leased by UPS just before Christmas to help with influx. I saw it many times while working on a project at Worldport. The crews do a great job maintaining these aircraft. Shit happens and it was minor enough that everyone survived and landed safely.

These kind of this happen "all the time", i say that loosely, this time just happened to be caught on camera

Turbo fan losing blades will chew up others & so on, not surprised to see an exit point.
All are Ok but they do need some new underpants.

Once again, professional crews bring this 747 cargo plane back to the ground safely.

Considering the location, possibly a compressor blade(s) though they are "supposed to be contained" within the engine in event of failure, there are plenty of examples of them... not....
