Pilot Killed in Training Mission Near Balashov Airport in the Saratov

On May 30, 2017, at 0640 local time, an Antonov AN-26 aircraft crashed during a training mission at Balashov Airport in the Saratov region of Russia. The aircraft was performing several touch-and-go maneuvers when the crew initiated a new approach. During the final approach, the airplane descended below the Minimum Descent Altitude and traveling at a speed of 240 km/h, rolled to the right at an angle of 24°. It then stalled and crashed in a field located 1,100 meters from the airfield, bursting into flames.

There were six crew members on board. Five of them sustained injuries, while a pilot under supervision was killed. The crew included Captain Y. Tereshin, Major S. Rodionov, Ensign Frolov, P. Halaimov, I. Makhmoudov, and M. Artemiev, who was the one fatally injured.

The probable cause of the crash was determined to be an error during the approach. The instructor, simulating an engine failure, led the aircraft to descend below the MDA and positioned both power levers to idle. This resulted in the failure of the propeller feathering system and the subsequent stoppage of the right engine. After 14 seconds, the instructor mistakenly shut down the left engine, which was functioning correctly. This caused the aircraft to lose speed, stall, and ultimately crash.

It looked to be losing power with one engine already out?

"The aircraft failed to maintain the parameters of descent during the final approach and went below the glide path"

Fancy terminology for 'the fucking engine quit'

Nice clip KH, thanks

Yeah, not enough airspeed for whatever reason, so not enough air flow at the wings= no lift= stall.
