Pilot Killed After Plane Crashed into a Neighborhood in Cali, Colombia
On October 3, 2022, a Lancair CIAC T90 Calima training aircraft crashed in the La Base neighborhood of Cali, Colombia, tragically resulting in the death of its pilot, Captain Hanner Sánchez Mora, and leaving the passenger, Cadet Juan David Díaz Solano, severely injured. The incident, which occurred around 7:15 a.m., happened in the Calle 26 area with no civilian injuries reported. Preliminary investigations suggest the aircraft was attempting to land in an open field, indicative of Captain Sánchez's attempts to minimize the impact of the crash. The aircraft was seen making about 20 circles in the air, indicating potential technical problems, before it descended at 89 kilometers per hour from an altitude of 3,200 feet. |
