Pictures From Lion Air Flight JT 610 That Crashed In Sea Off Jakarta
On October 29, 2018, Lion Air Flight 610, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, tragically crashed into the Java Sea just 13 minutes after taking off from Jakarta, en route to Pangkal Pinang. The devastating crash resulted in the loss of all 189 people on board, including 181 passengers and eight crew members. The aircraft, registered as PK-LQP, had been in operation since August 2018. The flight crew comprised Captain Bhavye Suneja, an Indian national with over 6,028 hours of flight experience, and Indonesian Co-pilot Harvino, who had 5,174 hours of flight experience. The flight took off from Jakarta at 6:20 am local time and was scheduled to arrive at Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang at 7:20 am. However, just minutes into the flight, the crew requested clearance to return to Jakarta, indicating trouble. Communication with air traffic control was lost at 6:33 am. Rescuers and emergency services were dispatched to the crash site, located 34 km off the coast of Java, where debris and personal items were recovered. Preliminary reports revealed that the aircraft had experienced technical issues on a previous flight, including trouble starting the engine and a lack of air conditioning, leading to uncomfortably hot conditions inside the plane. Despite these issues, Lion Air Chief Executive Edward Sirait stated that the problem had been "resolved," and there were no plans to ground the rest of the airline's Boeing 737 Max 8 fleet. The crash of Flight JT 610 marked the first major accident involving the Boeing 737 Max, an updated version of the 737. Heard a report they were looking at a rudder system problem. 737's have had problems with their rudder control units going to full reverse of the command. This has happened several times over the last 40 years or so. I still don't think they have found a solution. We'll see as more news comes out.
