A family of four narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision on an Arizona highway when a small Cessna aircraft made a dramatic emergency landing directly in front of their pick-up truck.

The incident occurred on U.S. Route 60 near Superior, Arizona, and was entirely captured by the family’s dashboard camera.

Kristal Ewing, her husband, and their two children were driving home to Mesa following a Mother's Day hike when they noticed an orange-and-white plane descending rapidly.

In the dashcam footage, Ewing can be heard alerting her children before realizing the plane was barreling directly toward them.

As the aircraft dropped onto the asphalt, Ewing’s husband reacted instantly, veering their truck onto the median strip.

The quick maneuver positioned the family’s vehicle directly underneath the descending plane's wing as it touched down rough on the roadway.

Miraculously, no one inside the truck or on the highway was hurt. The lone pilot, who was the only occupant of the aircraft, walked away completely uninjured.

The Ewings' pick-up truck sustained only a minor scuff mark on the back from the plane's spinning propeller.

After missing the truck, the plane continued down the road, clipped a highway sign, and nearly flipped forward before stopping on the central reservation.

The Cessna C150 had just departed from the nearby Superior Municipal Airport for a recreational flight when the engine stalled mid-air.

The owner of the aircraft confirmed he had lent the plane to a friend. This incident marks the third time in less than a month that an aircraft malfunction has forced a pilot onto a roadway in the state.

Reflecting on the terrifying close call, Kristal Ewing told local news outlets, "It’s still kind of surreal when I see the footage. It looks like it happened to someone else. I’m just really thankful that we were all able to walk away."

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the engine failure.
