L39ZA Military Training Aircraft Crashes in Bulgaria Killing Both Pilots
Bulgaria, A Military training aircraft crashed in Bulgaria. The government announces the death of the two pilots. The aircraft was an L39ZA, manufactured in Czechoslovakia in the 80's (but modernized in 2022).

Re: L39ZA Military Training Aircraft Crashes in Bulgaria Killing Both Pilots
Looks to me like he got lost at the very start, jinking around a bit before pulling up, then when he got up there, he couldn't get out of the way he was coming down ie, a half Cuban maneuver should have been used to stabilize the aircraft & get back in control of it before the G's made it hard to control the stick. I also think that the rear pilot, the trainee, had control of the aircraft & not the instructor & by the time that the instructor retook control of the aircraft by pressing a switch that switches between front & rear controls, as it's a dual seat trainer, they were fucked as the angle defeated them. |

Re: L39ZA Military Training Aircraft Crashes in Bulgaria Killing Both Pilots
While I was working at Learjet, one of our marketing pilots (Jim Bir) was on a trip to a South African airshow, in one of our new 55 Model aircraft, the first Learjet with a stand-up cabin. It was aircraft 55-010, the tenth A/C off the assembly line in Tucson, Arizona. He did the same thing this guy did. He did not have sufficient airspeed at the top of the loop to push the A/C further over and get it in a dive for recovery. Like this one, he just kind of mushed down and ran into the ground. Without sufficient airspeed, the aircraft failed to answer the controls, and so it just whacked into the runway. It looked like this one was just starting to answer the controls, and begin pulling up. But by then, it was too late. He needed another 1000 feet of altitude, or else should have started with a dive to gain airspeed, before he went into the loop. |

Yes, not a good entry or exit & situational awareness is a key factor in everything we do in life with not much going on here & even harder within a moving object with squawking (In flight communication between pilots) going on. A complete mix up across the board ! RIP ! |
